DIY Sushi Halloween Costume Idea Using Footed Pajamas
DIY SUSHI COSTUME
Save money! Make a costume out of footies and you get to use the footies all year long.
Do-it-yourself costumes are
always better than one from the mall.
THIS IS A NO-SEW COSTUME.
How to make a Sushi Costume out of a pair of adult footies:
Start with one pair of Adult Footed Pajamas
- Make a Silly Oriental Hat from Black Felt -and Orange or Yellow Posterboard.
- The hat in the photo was made by just cutting a large circle of Posterboard, cutting a notch in it, and stapling it with a Felt Tassel coming out of the top.
- Make a Sushi Roll from Green Felt - and Cardboard with Packing Peanuts.(Felt is available in a 6 foot wide version for about $5 a yard from fabric stores)
- Cut a cardboard circle for top and bottom - cut out a hole for your head - and a larger one for your legs.
- Staple white fabric to the top one - glue packing peanuts to the top. Loosely staple a very large piece of
- Green Felt to both pieces of cardboard.
- Make some Giant Chopsticks, Cucumber and Avocado from Cardboard and Posterboard.
- Then tape & staple them coming out of the neck hole.
- Show up at the party with someone dressed as Wasabi and/or Soy Sauce.
How to Make a DIY Adult Tekka Nigiri Sushi Costume
This is an easy DIY NO SEW homemade Halloween costume. Instructions on making an Adult Tekka Nigiri Sushi Costume using red footie pjs:
- Start with one pair of Red Adult Footie Pajamas
- Make piece of Nori (Seaweed) from a piece of Dark Green Felt
- (Felt is available in a 6 foot wide version for about $5 a yard from fabric stores)
- Make a Sushi Rice Block
- Put Packing Peanuts in a clear plastic bag (or laboriously glue packing peanuts to something the size of 3
- large cereal boxes).
- Wrap the Nori around the Rice Block - secure with Safety Pins.
- Make a Silly Oriental Hat from Black Felt -and Orange or Yellow Posterboard.

- Make a Ninja Sword (Sushi Knife) from a piece of posterboard (see A, B & C).
Safety Tip:
- Remember the safety tips from our DIY Page: ALWAYS be able to leap out of any costume immediately - in this case by clipping the pins that hold the Nori around your body so close to the edge that you could rip them out easily... (Always ask yourself: what if a bee gets in my costume?!?)
